The decision of Promoting Enduring Peace to give its Gandhi Peace Award jointly to Ralph Nader and Omar Barghouti is a fine opportunity for activists to cement the BDS movement with the work of U.S. progressives. BDS has had a number of victories, but with the new Trump Administration there's a bill in the Senate with 28 cosponsors that would give states explicit power to punish BDS advocates. A summary of the bill with links to the full bill is in this short article. It's an absolute attack on free speech. Imagine if the people in the 1930's were punished for organizing boycotts of Germany goods!
Barghouti is a major Palestinian figure. He has a recent article in Newsweek reflecting on Trump's speech after meeting Netanyahu.
The award will be given in New Haven on April 23.
